A Forest

Audiovisual performance by Alfredo Genovesi (guitar and effects) and Emese Csornai (concept, montage, overhead projection)

The performance took place in Art’n public space, a pop-up gallery, and was a part of a group exhibition in Amsterdam on the 6th of December 2009, on the exhibition The Curious Matter in 2010 July in Mezrab and in Overtoom301 in 2011 March.
We see the forest as a symbolic liminal space where the protagonist has to manage amongst creatures and situations previously unknown to him. I have chosen some cult movies where the forest is presented as a literal or abstract space where the hero faces his shadow-character, his subconscious. As a second layer, light and shades, images, and objects are projected on the top of the video projection, transferring the sequences to a deeper zone of observation, where common sense does not apply any longer. The audience is taken by the hand to enter a collective space of memories, which space we exit together with the end of the performance, somewhat transformed.
